Project: 12- to 15-minute mattress comparison video to aid potential buyers in making a mattress match.
My role: As a contract writer for Tuck.com, I was responsible for researching each mattress and scripting.
Materials: The client provided a video outline template, a writing style guide, and links to approved mattress research sites.
Process: I did NOT get to take a nap on either mattress, which was a key disappointment of my year (this was pre-COVID and disappointments were simpler then).
Following the provided outline, I researched each mattress to pull required stats for each video section. This required acute attention to detail, as source sites often presented conflicting information about each mattress. To ensure accuracy, I spent a lot of time cross-checking references against manufacturer specs.
I worked with the producer to incorporate client notes into the first draft and finalize the script.
While this was a pretty straightforward and technical script, the client did want to infuse the tiniest bit of personality into the intro, outro, and transitions between video sections. This led to gems like "let's identify the mattress that will give you the best night's rest at a price point that won't keep you up at night."
